ISSUE WITH MERGE OF NON IDENTICAL CONTACTS IN ANDROID
QUERRY:
Auto Merge of contacts that have no relation to each other. Even we cant separate it by editing in phone.
ROOT CAUSE:
- It was a software bug in android OS or may be a 3rd part android APP which you are using for restoring contacts from .CSV file.
- I tried importing contact from back up, each and every time i restore my contact, non identical contacts are merging automatically. This happens randomly and not same for each time i do.
- It was a software bug so we cannot identify what was exactly causing this issue.
Step 1: Sync contacts to Google
- Sync all the contacts to google account.
- By default it will done daily. Still do it once.
- Go to setting in Android. Select Accounts and sync, Select Google account, make sure sync was enabled for contacts sync. Click Sync now.
Step 2 : Identify duplicates if any.
- Login your gmail account and select contacts tab. Select duplicate contacts.
- As i tested in many ways, merged non identical contacts will not reflect in google account.
- Identify and merge duplicate contacts if any.
- Go to setting and select APP. Select Contacts app.
- Select and clear Data of contacts.
- Turn off internet before clearing contact storage.
- No turn internet on and sync your contacts back for google.
- Sync will be auto done when you turn on the internet.
- You may get notification that Too Many Contacts deleted, Select undo the delete.
Done. You will not find any non identical contacts that are merged earlier now.
PRECAUTIONAY:
- Never restore .csc directly from android OS.
- If it is really required to restore from .CSV, restore it to new gmail account then sync it back to your Android phone.
